About this trip
Special Interest Tours is going to Egypt!
Explore Cairo’s iconic pyramids and ancient wonders, then set sail with ona small, luxury Nile Dahabiya toward Luxor to experience the longest solar eclipse of the century along with specialized temple visits. A rare blend of Egypt’s timeless history with a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event.

Our first Egypt voyage sold out, so we have opened a second departure for ten to fifteen travelers. The itinerary and private touring are identical, to the day — only the hotels and vessel remain to be confirmed, for a reason worth explaining.

An eclipse like this — the longest totality over land until 2114 — draws travelers from around the world, and Egypt's finest hotels fill quickly for the dates around it. They will not hold rooms for a group like ours provisionally; they require named guests and passport details before a room is confirmed.

That is why we ask for a deposit and your details now, in the order they arrive. It is the only way to hold your place fairly — and the only way we can then secure the best rooms available, as close to five-star as the dates allow, along with a well-appointed dahabiya. Until the group is complete, every place belongs to those who commit first.

The hotels and the vessel are chosen once the group is complete, so they are not confirmed until then. For that reason the tour fare runs from $18,000 to $24,000 per person, depending on the caliber of hotels and dahabiya we secure. Your $5,000 deposit applies toward this total.

Day 3 - July 29 Explore Cairo

We depart early, to experience the Giza Platau, including the Great Pyramids and Sphinx. First guests can venture into the depths of the legendary Great Pyramid of Giza. which is the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World and a 4,500-year-old architectural masterpiece. Next we will marvel at the mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza, a colossal guardian carved from a single block of limestone, whose enigmatic smile has fascinated visitors for millennia.

We continue our journey through time at the world-renowned Grand Egyptian Museum, home to over 120,000 artifacts, including the dazzling treasures of Tutankhamun and intricately preserved royal mummies. From towering monuments to priceless antiquities, this immersive tour brings the grandeur, mystery, and timeless legacy of ancient Egypt vividly to life—all in one extraordinary day.

In the late afternoon we will fly south to Aswan where we will overnight before boarding our private Dahabiya the following day.

Day 4 - July 30 Temples of the Nile

Your day begins with a journey to one of Egypt’s most breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Sites — the legendary Temple of Isis at Philae. Dedicated to the goddess of magic and motherhood, this magnificent complex has drawn pilgrims and travelers for thousands of years, and it’s easy to understand why.

Arriving by private water taxi, you’ll glide across the still waters of the Nile to approach the temple just as ancient visitors once did — by boat, with the island rising dramatically before you. Your expert guide will lead you through both the Old and New Temple, unraveling the remarkable story of how the entire complex was painstakingly relocated stone by stone to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser — one of the greatest archaeological rescue missions in history.

From Philae, our water taxi continues to the enchanting Elephantine Island, one of the oldest inhabited sites in all of Egypt. Here, you’ll step ashore into the vibrant color and warmth of a Nubian Village — a world apart, where ochre and cobalt-painted homes line narrow lanes leading down to the river. Stroll at your own pace, browse the local market for hand-crafted treasures, and settle in at a neighborhood café for refreshments and a moment to soak it all in.

Early afternoon marks one of the journey’s most anticipated moments: checking into our Dahabiya, the elegant traditional sailing vessel that will be your private home on the Nile for the days ahead. With its graceful wooden hull and intimate, beautifully appointed cabins, the Dahabiya is a world away from the large river cruise ships — a slower, more soulful way to experience this ancient waterway.

As you set sail, settle into the rhythm of the river with a special guest on board — a storyteller, historian, a local voice — who will share tales of the Nile, its people, and the landscapes drifting past your deck. Over the course of a leisurely sail, there is nothing asked of you but to rest, watch the riverbanks shift and glow in the afternoon light and let Egypt come to you.

As the heat of the day softens into early evening, you’ll arrive at the remarkable Temple of Kom Ombo — a rare double temple dedicated to both the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. There is something special about experiencing this site as the day winds down, the golden light warming its carved reliefs and the crowds thinning as closing time approaches. It is an atmospheric and unhurried visit, perfectly timed.

From Kom Ombo, the Dahabiya sets sail toward Edfu, carrying you gently into the evening.

Day 5 - July 31 Drifting Toward Edfu: A Day of Temples, Sailing & Life on the Nile

Your Dahabiya has been quietly carrying you through the night, and as morning arrives, so does Edfu — one of the best-preserved temple complexes in all of Egypt. Step ashore into the cool of the early hours, before the day’s heat and visitors descend, and enter the magnificent Temple of Horus at its most serene. Towering pylons, intricately carved sanctuaries, and millennia of history greet you in near-solitude — a privilege that only an early arrival can offer.

Returning to the Dahabiya, a leisurely onboard breakfast is served as you cast off and begin the gentle sail toward Esna — a stretch of the Nile that ranks among its most quietly beautiful.

Afternoon — Life on the River

With the riverbanks drifting past and the afternoon light playing on the water, the Dahabiya becomes your sanctuary. A curated onboard activity is offered for those who wish to engage. For others, the afternoon is simply an invitation to read, nap on deck, and do absolutely nothing at all, which on the Nile feels like a luxury in itself.

All meals throughout the day are served onboard — fresh, unhurried, and prepared with care by your private crew — allowing the rhythm of the river to set the pace entirely.

As the light shifts to gold and the minarets of Esna come into view, your Dahabiya glides into port. One of Upper Egypt’s most authentic and least-touristed towns, Esna offers a glimpse of everyday Egyptian life largely unchanged by the modern world — a fitting and evocative place to end the day on the water.

Day 6 - Aug 1 Luxor Temple

Before first light, as the stars still hold the sky, your Dahabiya slips quietly from her moorings and sets sail toward Luxor. There is something deeply romantic about the Nile at this hour — the water glassy, the air cool, the riverbanks wrapped in the soft grey of pre-dawn.

The day belongs entirely to the river. Meals are served onboard at a leisurely pace — fresh, carefully prepared, and enjoyed on deck as the Egyptian landscape drifts past. Between breakfast and lunch, the time is yours to fill as you wish: join in curated onboard activities designed to engage and inspire, find a quiet corner of the deck with a book, or simply watch the Nile do what it has done for thousands of years. There is no agenda today but arrival, and the journey itself is the reward.

Early Evening — Luxor Temple

As the day cools and the sky begins its transformation, your Dahabiya arrives in Luxor. This evening, you’ll visit the breathtaking Luxor Temple at sunset — one of the most atmospheric moments Egypt has to offer. The temple at this hour remains nothing short of magical as dusk settles over the ancient sandstone.

Day 7 -Aug 2 The 2027 Solar Eclipse & Hatshepsut's Temple

This is the day the entire journey has been building toward.

After a leisurely breakfast onboard the Dahabiya, we will transfer to a private, rural location, away from crowds, to await the eclipse. Refreshments and entertainment will delight you while we await the day’s main event.

As mid-morning arrives, the sky begins to change. The partial eclipse takes hold just after 11:00 am, the sun’s light shifting almost imperceptibly at first, then unmistakably, as the moon begins its slow crossing. The temperature drops, the birds go quiet, and the Nile itself seems to hold its breath. At 12:05 pm, totality arrives — the sky darkens, stars appear in a midday sky, and the sun’s corona blazes in a ring of ghostly fire above the water. For over 6 extraordinary minutes, the universe puts on a performance four thousand years of Egyptian civilization would have recognized as the work of the gods. For centuries, civilizations have marveled at these celestial alignments; experiencing one from the timeless Nile River Valley nothing short of extraordinary.

Hatshepsut Temple

As the world returns to itself and the afternoon light feels somehow newer and more vivid than before, your group makes its way to the Temple of Hatshepsut — the mortuary monument of Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh, carved directly into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Your guide will bring Hatshepsut’s remarkable story to life as the warm late-afternoon light plays across the limestone terraces.

A fitting close to a day that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Day 8 - Aug 3 Dawn at Karnak & Return to Cairo

Before the city stirs, our group makes its way to one of the most awe-inspiring religious complexes ever built. Karnak Temple at dawn is something few travelers ever experience — the great hypostyle hall emerging from the half-light, its 134 towering columns casting long shadows across stone floors that have absorbed five thousand years of history. Our tour will include a rare visit to the inner sanctuary of Sekhmet, the fierce lion-headed goddess of power and healing, whose statue is said to still hold a living energy that has drawn worshippers for millennia. This is one of those quietly extraordinary moments — intimate, ancient, and completely unforgettable.

Returning from the temple as Luxor comes fully to life around you, we transfer to the airport for the short flight north to Cairo. Your luggage is handled, your journey is seamless, and by midday the minarets and rooftops of Egypt’s great capital are spread before you.

Upon arrival in Cairo you’ll be welcomed into a five-star property close to the airport — a refined and comfortable base for the final chapter of your Egyptian journey.

As the sun dips low in the sky, we will gather together as a group for the last time at our farewell dinner.

Day 9 - Aug 4 Farewell

On this final morning in Egypt, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before our team transfers you to the the airport for your flight home, or to your next adventure.
