Itinerary
Day 1 Welcome to Colorado

Guests will fly into the Denver airport and use the rail line from the airport to downtown, or train into Denver Union Station and meet at our hotel in downtown Denver.

This first evening you will meet your fellow guests, tour guides and Trains Magazine special guest at our welcome dinner.

Day 2 Golden Railroad Museum and Georgetown Loop Railway

We begin the day with a scenic drive to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, where engaging exhibits and historic locomotives offer a vivid introduction to Colorado’s rich railroading past, including a Galloping Goose ride around their expansive railyard.

From there, we continue to the charming and historic town of Georgetown, to board our private car on the Georgetown Loop Railroad, taking in spectacular canyon views as we ride one of Colorado’s most iconic heritage railways.

Day 3 Leadville Southern Railroad to Grand Junction

We drive up to Leadville, the 2-mile high city, to board our privately chartered train on the Leadville Southern Railroad. Take in the stunning views of the Upper Arkansas River Valley, view Colorado’s two tallest peaks Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive and travel through the peaceful San Isabel National forest with towering evergreens and beautiful fluttering Aspen trees.

Next we’ll head westward to Grand Junction where we overnight. As night approaches we head to dinner at a local winery.

Day 4 Durango & Silverton RR

We’ll start the day in Grand Junction and enjoy a scenic drive to Silverton, a charming historic mining town nestled in the mountains. Upon arrival, guests will have time to explore the town, enjoy lunch, and photograph the trains in the yard against the stunning alpine backdrop.

In the afternoon, we’ll board the train for a one-way journey from Silverton to Durango, taking in the breathtaking scenery as we travel through rugged canyons and high-mountain landscapes—a truly unforgettable rail experience.

Day 5 Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway

A morning drive brings us to Chama, where we meet the iconic Cumbres & Toltec RR, for our all-day excursion from Chama to Antonito on America’s longest and highest narrow-gauge railroad adventure.
Journey through dramatic mountain passes, lush valleys, and timeless ghost towns aboard vintage steam trains.

On conclusion in Antonito, our private bus will then take us to Alamosa where we will overnight.

Day 6 Royal Gorge Train & Bridge

Prepare for a breathtaking day around the Royal Gorge.

First we head down to the gorge to hop on Royal Gorge Railroad, where our private car offers sweeping, panoramic views as we chase the wild curves of the Arkansas River deep into the heart of the canyon. For those craving an even more immersive experience, the open-air car provides unmatched vantage points—perfect for capturing the sheer granite walls soaring high above the tracks.

Then we head up to the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park where, standing nearly a thousand feet above the rushing river, you’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to photograph the next train as it thunders through the canyon far below—an unforgettable moment that truly showcases the power and beauty of this iconic Colorado landmark.

Day 7 Pike's Peak

Today we head to the lively town of Manitou Springs to board the infamous Pike’s Peak Cog Railway to climb to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak aboard the world’s highest cog railway. Marvel at sweeping views, alpine forests, and the inspiration behind “America the Beautiful.” This iconic journey combines breathtaking scenery with over a century of railroading history.

After our descent we return to Denver and check back into the Limelight Hotel, where our adventure began.

Day 8 Farewell

Breakfast is included at the hotel. Walk to Union Station to transfer to a flight home or your next adventure.
