Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival Arrive in Chile

Travel to Santiago International Airport. We will greet you at the airport and transfer you to our Hotel Cumbres in the cultural Lastarria neighborhood.

This evening we will have a city tour followed by a group dinner in a classic Chilean restaurant.

Day 2 - Santiago Explore Santiago

Enjoy the day sightseeing around Santiago and tasting wine in the surrounding countryside, getting a taste for what this central region has to offer.

Day 3 - Fly to Calama Fly to San Pedro de Atacama

After breakfast we will transfer to the airport for our flight to Calama.

Upon our arrival in the high desert, private vans will escort our group through the arid landscape to our remote hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

We have chosen the most remote location possible for our luxury hotel in San Pedro, to ensure the darkest skies for our group, even when you are relaxing at the hotel.

This first night, Bob will lead the group to the property’s observatory hill for an open air, naked eye lecture on the incredible southern sky.

Day 4 - April 6 Salt Flats and Southern Sky

After a leisurely morning, we begin our first day of adventure. Our excursion starts with a visit to Toconao, a local village known for its masonry and architecture which is typical of the area, as well as its important agricultural heritage.

Next, we continue to Tamarugos forest, a woodIand region en route to the National Reserve of the Flamingos. The National Flamingos reserve is made up of two salt flats, which are home to some interesting fauna including, you guessed it, Flamingos. As the sun dips low in the sky we will enjoy the golden colors of the sky reflected in the mirror of the lakes. Our hotel will be keeping us well fed with a sunset picnic with snacks and refreshments.

When we return to the hotel, we will have an early dinner before prepping for our first night at our private observatory.

The the early evening we will be picked up and transferred to our observatory for the next two nights, which has a 60cm, a 72cm and 1m15 diameter telescopes.

Day 5 The Heart of San Pedro

Our full day of activities begins with learning about the cultural history of the region.

We will visit first traces of the Atacamenian villages and visit thte 2,400-year-old archaeological site of Tulor. Then we will tour the town of San Pedro, visit the historic center and its church before finishing at a 13th century fortress, Pucará de Quitor.

In the afternoon, we will visit the surreal and desolate moon-like landscape of the Ckamur region. One of the most scenic places in the area it is located at the Salt Mountain Range about 22 km from San Pedro de Atacama. This valley is full of majesty and silence, coldly beautiful and imposing. We will enjoy sunset here with an aperitif picnic.

e moon, finishing up the day with a sunset aperitif at a magical viewpoint.

This evening we will depart a little earlier in the evening to catch different celestial objects of the southern hemisphere.

Day 6 Tatio Geysers

We depart early for our adventure to the Tatio Geysers. The Tatio Geysers, a name derived from the kunza and which translates like “The crying grandfather”, is a geothermal field at 4,321 meters above sea level. We will explore the Geysers, which consist of large pools of boiling water and mud, fumaroles, and natural hot springs. This is also a good chance to appreciate the unique flora and fauna adapted to flourish in this extreme environment.

Along the way we will pass through stunning scenery of this incredible region.

This evening will offer a final chance to soak in the heavens naked eye alongside Bob Berman, who will be happy to answer any final questions before we say our goodbyes to the jet black skies.

Day 7 - Farewell San Pedro to Santiago

After breakfast we make the journey back to the Calama airport, for our included group flight back to the Santiago airport for guest’s international flights home.
