Itinerary
Day 1 - June 5th Meet in DC

Arrive in Washington DC and gather at the hotel for a welcome dinner, where you will meet fellow guests and your Trains Magazine special guest.

Day 2 - June 6th Highlights of Roanoke

Depart early by coach for the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Upon arrival we will have a private museum presentation followed by free hours to explore on your own.

After a lunch break we will continue on to the Winston Link Museum, which contains exhibits on West Virginia’s history including exhibits about the state’s steam train background.

This evening we will overnight and dine at the historic Roanoke, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Day 3 - June 7th Cass Bald Knob

We start the day with a visit to the C&O Railway Heritage Center in Clifton Forge.

Next we’ll head to Cass for a shop tour prior to boarding the Cass Bald Knob, for a 5-Hour round-trip journey through the scenic mountains of West Virginia.

Day 4 - June 8th Cass-Durbin

Today we return to Cass to ride their new Cass-Durbin line on the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, which is a heritage and freight railway. We will stop for lunch in Durbin where guests will have chance to stretch their legs before the return journey.

Day 5 - June 9th Tygart Flyer

The day begins with a visit to  the West Virginia Railroad Museum in Elkins.

Next we’ll board the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley railroad’s new Tygart Flyer which features “mountain grades, an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge and miles of unspoiled mountain views. Vintage diesel-powered locomotives climb along the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat.

Upon returning to Elkins we will travel by coach to Cumberland, Maryland and settle in for a 2-night stay.

Day 6 - June 10th Western Maryland Scenic

Today we ride the Western Maryland Scenic behind a 1309 mallet type locomotive.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served onboard and guests will have access to both the dome car and first class lounge.

Day 7 - June 11th Everett Railroad Charter

Today we’ll enjoy a private charter behind steam on the Everett Railroad.

In the afternoon we will visit the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona.

Day 8 - June 12th East Broad Top

Today we’ll visit East Broad Top, which is newly open after having been closed for 9 years.

We will have an hour long shop tour with one of their master mechanics followed by a chartered ride on their round-trip excursion from Rockhill Furnace to Colgate Grove.

In the afternoon we will stop at the Isett Heritage Museum, which is  filled with thousands of antiques and rare items of Central Pennsylvania history.

This evening we return to our original hotel in DC for our farewell dinner and final night of the tour.

Day 9 - June 13th Farewell

Breakfast is provided in the morning, and shuttles to the airport are available throughout the day. For those traveling by rail, Union Station can be reached from the Dulles airport through the WMATA subway trains on the red line.
