Astronomer & Tour Guide

Director of Tours

Anjali in a sense, “grew up” in the travel business, accompanying her father, astronomer Bob Berman, on tours and travels around the world, throughout her childhood. After decades of traveling with family and then independently she wanted to share her passion for traveling, so in 2013 she founded Special Interest Tours. In addition to running the company, she also guides many of our tours. She is also a photographer and 500-hour certified Kripalu yoga teacher, and uses those skill sets for preparing guests for auroral photography on the Northern Lights Tour, and leads yoga retreats throughout the world.

On the day to day, I handle all of the little behind the scenes details that make a tour successful. You’ll find me answering calls & emails from guests, sending contracts & rooming lists, or maybe Skyping to another continent. I enjoy the challenges of sorting out the details and resolving any guest’s needs before and during a tour. A few times a year, I get to join guests on a tour, where I share in the awe & wonder of visiting these exciting places right along with them. I love the feeling of being their hostess on what really is just an extended, multi-venue party!

Bob Berman is the world’s most widely read astronomer. His celebrated "Strange Universe" page has appeared continuously in Astronomy magazine for over a quarter century. Berman is also astronomy editor of the Old Farmers Almanac. He was Discover magazine’s "Night Watchman" columnist from 1989-2006. Berman's TV credits include appearances on Today, and on Late Night with David Letterman. Bob Berman is author of twelve popular science books published by Harper Collins and Little Brown, with numerous foreign editions. Listeners in seven states hear him weekly on Northeast Public Radio stations during NPR's Weekend Edition.
